For most people in the United States, HVAC systems are considered an integral part of modern life. Where once air conditioning and heating was a luxury only the wealthy could afford, it is now a normal part of American life. Interestingly enough, however, many people still don’t understand how these systems work or how to take care of them and that’s where we come in. We know what it takes to keep heating and cooling services in Minneapolis up and running. Here are a few things we wish more people knew that could save a lot of our customers’ money.
Myth 1: Air Pollution Is Outside
First and foremost, air pollution is not just an outdoor problem. All of the air inside your home ultimately comes from what is outside, which means that a lot of the same pollutants that are floating around out there get caught and circulated in home HVAC systems. Besides dealing with a lot of the same pollutants that are outside, homes grow their own little problems, too. Mold, dust, viruses, bacteria, and pet dander are common problems for home owners and can cause serious illnesses in sensitive populations. Luckily, there are quite a few things we can do to help clean the air being circulated in a home or business.
Myth 2: Change Air Filters Annually
Another thing that confuses a lot of people is how often air filters should be cleaned. We know that air filters are a huge part of reducing the pollution that circulates in a home. For most HVAC systems, filters should be cleaned every two months. By cleaning air filters on a regular basis, we can ensure that the air our customers breathe is cleaner and that their HVAC system components can function as efficiently as possible. By letting us take proper care of their heating and air conditioning systems, our customers can rest easy knowing they are getting the most bang for their buck.
Myth 3: Only Call Professionals for Problems
Just like changing the air filter, having an annual inspection of HVAC equipment is key to making sure it lasts as long as possible. All too often, people forget about their HVAC system until there is a problem with it. We highly recommend thorough, routine inspections of all HVAC equipment. Not only will this ensure the longevity of the system, it will also ensure that the equipment is safe and does not present a threat to our customers and their families. Luckily, maintenance packages are an affordable part of HVAC services.
Myth 4: Air Ducts Don’t Need Cleaning
Finally, one of the biggest HVAC debates is whether or not to clean air ducts. There are quite a few people in the “no” camp but, as professionals who have seen just about everything, we are firmly in the “yes” camp. While we don’t necessarily recommend it on a routine basis, there are a few things that indicate it is time for a cleaning, such as possible rodent infestations, excessive dust, and an inefficient dryer. When one or more of these things start happening in a home, it is usually time to call us in to have a look at whether dirty vents could be the culprit.
When we come do an inspection of the air ducts, we use the latest video technology to take a look and see whether clogged ducts are actually a problem. The last thing we want to do is stir up excessive dust in our clients’ homes!
